Guest Programmer: Tusiata Avia

July 7, 2018

Talofa lava,

I have programmed three sessions for WORD, drawing on my friendships with writers and creatives of colour from cis and LGBTQI+ communities. It’s a beginning. In Fast Burning Women, New Zealand Poet Laureate and uber-busy academic Selina Tusitala Marsh and I discuss how to burn bright but not out. For The Body is Not An Apology, Sonya Renee Taylor, poet, performer and social activist, shares her astonishing work. She also contributes to Comfortable in Your Skin, a panel of queer creatives of colour chaired by award-winning playwright Victor Rodger. Also included are iconic mover and shaker, Georgina Beyer, and Pati Solomona Tyrell and Manu Vaea from FAFSWAG, the skyrocketing collective of queer indigenous creatives. FAFSWAG also run a Vogue! workshop on Saturday afternoon and perform at the Neu! Ōtautahi! Incident that night. Don’t miss them!

Ia manuia,

Tusiata
