Kate Sylvester speaks…

July 29, 2018

New Zealand designer Kate Sylvester’s conceptual collections embody intelligence, witty irreverence, sophistication and modern femininity. We are proud to have them on board as a WORD Christchurch partner for another festival. We caught up with amazing woman, Kate Sylvester, to talk about books (as we do):

WORD: What are your favourite books?
KS: So many! But these are the ones I read over and over again. Jane Eyre, Catcher in the Rye, Just Kids, Brideshead Revisited, The Secret History.

WORD: Who are you most looking forward to seeing in the Festival?
KS: Of course Hera Lindsay Bird and Hollie McNish, also Irvine Welsh.

WORD: How has literature influenced your collections?
KS: My collections always tell a story and books regularly serve as inspiration. For example my 2015 collection Tartt explored the novels of author Donna Tartt, West Coast in 2014 used Eleanor Catton’s The Luminaries as a starting point and All My Heart in 2012 was inspired by Jane Eyre.

Our event, Hera Lindsay Bird and Hollie McNish: Poetry Stars, is proudly presented by Kate Sylvester
