Charlotte Grimshaw: I and I and I

In recent book reviews, Charlotte Grimshaw has explored the concept of ‘selfie-fiction’, which inserts the writer into the story and examines ‘false narrative, loss of the self and the fragmented self’. Practitioners include Karl Ove Knausgård, Catherine Chidgey, Rachel Cusk and now Grimshaw herself, with her new novel Mazarine. Setting out to examine ‘I and I and I’, she combines all these ideas and more in a gripping story about a family ‘subtly ruled by narcissists’, and may or may not have mined her own life for material. She talks family ties, Trump, fake news and psychotherapy with Kate de Goldi.
