Scorpio Books and National Poetry Day present a special lunchtime reading with Elizabeth Smither, esteemed and celebrated poet, winner of The 2018 Ockham Poetry Award for her collection Night Horse.
Taranaki writer Elizabeth Smither has written five novels, five books of short stories and seventeen books of poetry.
Smither has twice won the major award for New Zealand poetry and was the 2002 Te Mata Poet Laureate. She was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit and was awarded an honorary DLitt from the University of Auckland for her contributions to literature. She was given the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement in 2008. In 2016 she won the Sarah Broom Poetry Prize, New Zealand’s most valuable poetry award, judged by Paul Muldoon.
